Kalyste Spradlin has brains, success, money and love. It was snatched away the night before her wedding when she is killed by a drunk driver, her best friend, Chantal. When she wakes up in Haven, and is told she has to embrace her new life after death, she is hell bent on revenge against Chantal.
Jude Whitten has been a counselor in Haven for thirty-one years when he gets his first tough assignment. If he can't get Kalyste to forgive his daughter for her death, he will be duty bound to hunt her down, once she re-enters the human realm, and end her. He is now faced with a choice he never wanted. Does he protect his daughter, or the woman in his life after?
Excerpt:
Kalyste pulled off her shoes and rubbed her feet. "You would think aching feet wouldn't be a problem with immortality." She leaned back against Jude's chest, completely at ease. His slow, steady breathing was like a lullaby. She could feel her muscles relax. The celebration made her feel almost normal again.
He rested his chin lightly on top of her head. "Well, unfortunately, we aren't immune to pain. Just death."
"Hmm." Kalyste closed her eyes for a minute, fighting the urge to sleep.
"If you're tired, we can go. All of the potentials and intendeds are gone, so it's considered acceptable." Jude stood and held a hand out.
Kalyste held her sandals in one hand and took his in the other. "Yeah. What time is it anyway?"
Jude chuckled as he tucked her arm in his. "Does it matter? Time is only important here if you have someplace to be, and right now, we don't."
They strode in comfortable silence until they reached Kalyste's door. "I had a good time tonight. Thank you, Jude."
He put a hand to her cheek and stroked her soft flesh. "So did I." Jude leaned in and brushed his lips across her cheek. "Good night."
Kalyste almost moaned at the empty feeling in her soul when he turned to walk away. She didn't want him to go and her screaming body wouldn't allow her to let him walk away from her. "Jude." When he turned around, she reached behind her back and turned the knob on her door letting it swing open. "Stay with me."
